Plaster cast of a bas relief Classical plaque showing an Ancient mythological scene.

The small serpent-entwined tree to the centre is most probably a depiction of the 'staff of Asclepius'. Serpents were revered by the Greeks as embodiments of wisdom, healing and resurrection - as such, the staff of Asclepius is the ancient symbol of healing - depicted here, as it usually was, alongside Asclepius himself - the ancient God of medicine.

Very delicate and fine details.

Dimensions (cm): Height 15.5, Width 45.5, Depth 2.

To the rear, hand-initialled and stamped with the Alexander Griffin maker's mark and fitted with a brass 'D ring' for wall hanging from a single screw / nail / hook.

Every cast is made by hand, with a 4/6 week lead time. For more urgent orders please enquire.

Picture v - shown alongside: Scallop shell, Diana roundel and Demeter plaques.
